Glidr is a ski navigation app developed by NV-IT. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Location data: Glidr uses your device's GPS to provide turn-by-turn ski navigation, locate you on the map, share your position with friends during active friend sessions, and attach your position to community safety reports you submit. During an active navigation session, Glidr may continue accessing location in the background so guidance, live sharing, and safety features keep working until you stop navigation.
Camera: The camera is used solely to scan QR codes when joining a friend session. No photos or videos are captured or stored.
Display name: The name you enter is used to identify you in friend sessions and may be attached to crash reports for debugging purposes.
Authentication: You can use Glidr anonymously. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and provider display name to link your account.
Synced preferences: If you use a linked Google or Apple account, Glidr may sync selected preferences across your devices. This can include routing preferences, voice language, display name, diagnostics preference, and an optional saved home location if you choose to set one.
Community safety reports: When you submit a safety report (e.g. icy piste, broken lift, hazard), we collect the report type, your GPS coordinates, an optional comment, and your anonymous user ID. Other users in the same ski area can see and vote on your report. Reports expire automatically after a set period.
Community statistics: When you complete a route, anonymous aggregate statistics (routes completed, distance skied, elevation) are recorded to display community counters. These statistics are not linked to your identity.
Diagnostics: Glidr collects diagnostic data to help us identify and fix bugs. This includes device information (platform, OS version, screen size), app events (navigation steps, GPS signal quality, errors), and your selected ski area. Diagnostics can be disabled in Settings. Diagnostic data may be streamed in real time or uploaded as bundles to our servers for analysis.
Crash reports: If the app crashes, an error report is automatically sent to our crash reporting service (Sentry). This includes the error details, your display name, selected ski area, and whether you were navigating.
Analytics: Glidr uses Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) to measure how the app is used in aggregate. This includes anonymous events such as app open, session start, screen views, app version, device model, OS version, country, and language, plus a randomly generated installation ID. Analytics data does not include your name, email, or precise location. Aggregate analytics may be shared with Google Ads and Google Play to measure ad campaign performance and acquisition source for installs. You can disable analytics collection by uninstalling the app.
Notifications: If you allow notifications, Glidr may register a push notification token so we can notify you when background map preparation or planning tasks finish. We may also show local on-device notifications for the same purpose.
Feedback: If you submit feedback after a navigation session, your rating, optional comments, and recent diagnostic events from that session are sent to help us improve the app.
Device identifier: A random device ID is generated and stored locally on your device. It is used to identify your device in diagnostic streams and is not linked to your personal identity.
Emergency info dialog: When you tap the red Help button, Glidr displays your current GPS coordinates, altitude, and the closest piste on-screen so you can read them out to ski patrol. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to Glidr or any third party. If you choose to call a ski-patrol number from the dialog, the call is placed by your phone's system dialer over your normal mobile network — Glidr does not record, route, or have access to the call. Tapping "Open in Google Maps" or "Open in What3Words" launches those external services with your current coordinates as a query parameter; their use is governed by their own privacy policies.
Fall detection: During friend sessions, if fall detection is enabled, accelerometer data may trigger a fall alert that shares your GPS position with other session members.
Ski area map data, saved routes, and saved day plans are stored locally on your device. If you stay anonymous, your preferences remain local to that device. If you use a linked Google or Apple account, selected preferences may also be stored in Firebase Realtime Database so they can sync across your devices.
When using the Find Friends feature, your display name and real-time location are temporarily stored in Firebase Realtime Database for the duration of the session (up to 12 hours). This data is automatically deleted when the session ends.
Safety reports are stored in Firebase Realtime Database and expire automatically based on the report type (ranging from minutes to several days). A per-user rate limit of 10 reports per hour is enforced to prevent abuse.
Diagnostic bundles are stored in Firebase Storage. Community statistics are stored as anonymous aggregates in Firebase Realtime Database.
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties. Location data shared during friend sessions is only visible to other members of that session. Safety reports are visible to all users in the same ski area but do not reveal your identity.
Glidr uses the following third-party services:
Firebase (Google): Used for authentication (anonymous, Google, and Apple sign-in), synced preferences, real-time friend session data, community safety reports, push messaging, diagnostic data storage, community statistics, and aggregate usage analytics (Firebase Analytics / Google Analytics for Firebase). Aggregate analytics data may be shared with Google Ads and Google Play for ad campaign measurement and install attribution. Subject to Firebase Privacy Policy.
OpenStreetMap: Map tiles and ski area data are sourced from OpenStreetMap. Subject to OSM Privacy Policy.
Sentry: Used for crash reporting and error tracking. Subject to Sentry Privacy Policy.
Open-Meteo: Used to fetch weather forecasts. Your approximate GPS coordinates are sent to retrieve local weather data. Subject to Open-Meteo Terms.
Friend session data is deleted when the session ends or after 12 hours. Safety reports expire automatically (minutes to days depending on type). Diagnostic data is retained for debugging purposes and periodically cleaned up. Crash reports are retained according to Sentry's data retention policies. Community statistics are stored indefinitely as anonymous aggregates.
You can disable diagnostic data collection in the app's Settings. You can use the app without signing in (anonymous mode). Fall detection can be toggled on or off. Friend sessions are entirely opt-in.
Glidr is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
